AWPM – Committed to growth of Indian Welding Products Manufacturers
By OEM Update Editorial January 18, 2024 12:34 pm IST
AWPM, the national association, encourages welding product manufacturers to join, facilitating industry growth, market analysis, and collaboration with government bodies and professional welding organisations in India, ensuring a collective effort for advancement and recognition.
The Association of Welding Products Manufacturers (AWPM) was established in the year 2005 with the initiatives of some of the leading welding products manufacturers. AWPM was registered on 8th February 2005 with the Registrar, Greater Bombay Region, Maharashtra Government with clear aims and objectives. AWPM is the national level association of welding products manufacturers and encourages welding products manufacturers to become members in order to facilitate the growth of entire Indian welding industry.
Importance of Welding & Welding Industry in India
As we know, welding is indispensable to all manufacturing industries. With development in material sciences, newer materials with better mechanical properties are becoming available on one hand. On the other hand, welding processes are modified and improved frequently due to technological development in electronic field. This has significantly enhanced welding efficiency & productivity.
Consequently, use of welding processes has increased in all industries for metal joining applications. As a result of this, one cannot imagine the development and manufacturing of new products like super critical boilers, satellites like Mangalyan, defense equipment like battle tank, long-range missiles, heavy mechanical structures for high pressure, low & high-temperature applications, etc. without the use of welding processes.
In addition, with the growth of steel industry steel production has increased multifold in last few decades, which has fueled the welding & fabrication activities rapidly across all industry sectors. Now welding activities have become an integral part of industry sectors like, heavy engineering, construction, oil & gas, power, auto industry, railways, steel, defence, aviation & space, shipping and other Infrastructural & nation-building projects. Evidently, these sectors are the engines of Indian economy and none of them can achieve growth without welding activities. It would be only fair to say that welding is the unseen and often unrecognized but one of the most important bonds that strengthens the Indian economy.Welding is the most critical process for almost every manufacturing activity. From satellites, supercritical boilers to protective residential iron gates and the miles-upon-miles of the railroad, delivering robust manufacturing excellence is impossible without this special indispensable process. Welding does not just fuse materials, it fans the engines of the economy. That’s how significant it is. One of the objectives of the Association of Welding Product Manufacturers (AWPM), formed in 2005, is to establish this significance among the entire Indian welding network, and to subsequently engage with all stakeholders for augmenting the Indian Standards of welding to the level of AWS, ISO, etc. Another important objective of the association is to deliver value benefits to welding product manufacturers by undertaking initiatives and interacting with government agencies, industry bodies, research & educational institutes, etc. for developing growth driven policies.
There are several activities that the association has conducted in past, and many planned for near future for the benefit of the welding network and specifically for welding Industry.
Important areas of AWPM Activites:
- Representation to Government & Allied Bodies
- Participation in Events & Exhibitions
- Industry-Institute Interaction & Cooperation
- Supporting Welding Education & Skill Development
- Creating awareness on Safety, Health & Hazards in Welding
