Discussing the latest automated technologies with OEM Update, P L Muthusekkar, Managing Director, NORD DriveSystems India, highlights the DuoDrive, IE5 efficient products. He also mentions about their aim to increase local manufacturing.
What are the promising trends in gears motors and transmission in the domestic automotive and machine tools industry?
Industry 4.0 and automation, predictive maintenance are the latest and promising trends in geared motors. It gives values and increase productivity minimises the loss of time, money and resources. Today any trend which helps to increase the throughput and reduces waste is adopted instantaneously. Interestingly, one of our latest products is DuoDrive geared motor, a revolutionary product. We, on the management board and each of our more than 4,000 employees worldwide are very proud of our truly revolutionary DuoDrive. This herald a new era of drive technology! The patented new DuoDrive geared motor has an efficiency of up to 92 percent and thus one of the most efficient geared motors in its power class.
How AI and Automation is impacting the performance of gears, motors and transmission process?
AI is still a long way to go, Automation is existing and its impact is realised by the market and industry. Automation helps to reduce the cost and maximise the production and allows precise control and remote monitoring. With our IE5+ synchronous motor, we have already been able to significantly reduce losses compared to the current IE4 series.
What measures are you taking to maintain the energy efficiency standards in gears, motors and power transmission?
Energy efficiency has been our prime focus and not just the motor efficiency improvement and shift from IE1 to today IE5, also the gear mesh losses minimised and optimum efficiency reached in every stage and off course and most of the type of gearboxes also focuses on reducing the oil change intervals. Moreover, our new high-efficiency portfolio is supplemented by the decentralised NORDAC ON frequency inverter. With its integrated Ethernet interface and its very compact design, it provides a highly economic plug-and-play solution for IoT environments.
Gears, motors and transmission segment are a cost-sensitive market. How are you dealing with the cost competencies to remain competitive in the market?Cost vs Value needs to be looked upon, no best product in the world is seen only on cost, if it is seen only on cost then it is not the best class. We focus on continuous improvisation on our products to enhance customer value proposition and also focus on localisation to mitigate the duties, transport and currency escalation costs. Local for Global is our policy.
What kind of technical skills are required to regulate the automated process?
Technical expertise/experience, Data management and analytics, troubleshooting and solution providing, Visual thinking, etc. are the technical skills required to automate a process. When we are going to compete globally, we must embed our skills with all the necessary industry 4.0, automation, machine learning and all the latest technologies are still not entirely enlightened in India. We, at NORD, have already supplied for various industries including construction industry and robotic industry, our automated storage and retrieval industry or warehouse and logistics, airports.
What are your latest offerings to the automotive and machining industry?
Our products are used for various industries including Automotive and machine tool industry. Our latest offering just launched is Duo Drive, IE5+and NORDAC ON. For all round compatibility. We call it as All Rounder. All quality-determining components are produced in our own factories and we are currently operating eight production locations with cuttingedge technology. In our technology centre near Hamburg, we are developing the future of drive technology – worldwide.
