Sambit Sengupta, Associate Director – Solution Sales, Avnet Asia, in an interview with OEM Update, talks about the opportunities and challenges for electrical and electronic parts manufacturing in India with the government’s booster with PLI Scheme for domestic manufacturers.

How are the recent budget announcements towards electronics and parts manufacturing impacting your business?
The recent budget announcement recognises the need to accelerate the growth of local electronic manufacturing. Particularly, the `50,000 Cr production linked incentive (PLI) scheme will go a long way in encouraging the local ecosystem to step up manufacturing of phone and accessories and Electric Vehicles (EVs). We are already seeing emerging world beaters in mobile accessories being locally designed and manufactured. The electronic manufacturing clusters dedicated to mobile phones will support electronic component distributers, including Avnet, to provide strong supply chain services locally. The recent budget also encourages local production of auto components, as technology advancements have contributed to increasing electronics content in new age connected vehicles.
What is your key product profile?
What are the opportunities and challenges in catering to cutting-edge technologies, especially for the defence and aerospace sector?Avnet India has a strong track record in the aerospace and defence sector. We have participated in most key programs in this sector and have been always patronised by the major players. We have worked with the major R&D centres and have provided world class secure supply chain and distribution services to their PSU manufacturing partners. The upcoming opportunities in secured radios, new RADARs and multiple space programs excite us a lot. We have a world class team to support the innovators in this segment who have been trusted for past 3 decades.
What kind of products and solutions do you provide for smart factories?
We are very partner centric and many of our partners have developed off-the-shelf sensors which are a right fit for smart factories. We have in-house capabilities to take these sensors and connect them to gateways (sourced from our vendors) and we have a cloud-based PaaS service to provide intelligent analytics. We can provide bespoke analytics and data analysis for different requirements by smart factory use cases.
What kind of automated products do you provide across various industries?
We provide multiple sensors from our vendors that are used in automated products based on the requirements of our customers.
