India’s defence manufacturing is a significant sector for Indian economy. India has been one of the top importers for defence equipment manufacturers. The Indian government has set the defence production target at US$ 25.00 billion by 2025 (including US$ 5 billion from exports by 2025).
Union Budget 2022 has announced allocating ₹ 4.78 lakh crore for defence sector. This brings 19 percent of additional investment this year, as compared to ₹4.17 lakh crore in 2020-21. With this, India will be able to achieve ₹1.75 lakh crore industry for defence manufacturing.
On this note, OEM Update hosted an interactive session on “Vocal for Local and Defence Manufacturing”, on 23rd March 2021. In this session industry experts talked about all the emerging opportunities and challenges in the defence manufacturing sector. Also, the discussion put light on enhancing the security systems and manufacturing processes with automation and other newer technologies
