Indian Coast Guard partners with the private sector for indigenous marine steel

Indian Coast Guard and Jindal Steel & Power have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to provide indigenous marine-grade steel for shipbuilding, aiming to increase indigenous content.
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi on May 7, 2024, for the provision of indigenous marine grade steel to increase indigenous content in shipbuilding. Through this collaboration, both parties have committed to fostering indigenisation and improving capabilities to produce and use these commodities in the national interest.
The Memorandum of Understanding emphasises the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing complex security concerns, highlighting the need for collaboration between government agencies and the private sector. The MoU specifies certain important features, including quality, grades, and dimensions, as well as the approved steel mills to manufacture the product, to assure shipbuilding yards of a timely supply of marine-grade steel for the ICG.The MoU was signed by Deputy Director General (Materiel & Maintenance), ICG IG HK Sharma, and Chief Marketing Officer, JSP SK Pradhan, in the presence of senior officers of the ICG.
