Archigas, a start-up, has received the HERMES Startup Award for their moisture-resistant sensor, which measures hydrogen levels rapidly and reliably. The sensor is designed around an increased thermal conductivity function on a microchip.
The award-winning device is a tiny, moisture-resistant sensor that can measure hydrogen levels quickly, precisely, and reliably. The sensor approach is based on an enhanced thermal conductivity measuring function on a microchip, which was created in collaboration with RheinMain University of Applied Science. Archigas’ sensor development contributes significantly to the safe generation, storage, and use of hydrogen.
“Hydrogen technologies are playing a central role in the transformation of industry towards sustainability and are a core element of the energy system of the future. So as to fully exploit their potential, it is absolutely crucial to promptly turn innovative ideas into actual applications. Start-ups such as Archigas are playing a key role to this end,” said Prof. Dr. Holger Hanselka, President of the Fraunhofer Society and Chair of the HERMES Startup Award jury. “The groundbreaking technology developed by Archigas stands out for its ultra-compact dimensions, robust design, rapid measuring capability, and the wide range of potential applications for which it can be used. Archigas perfectly exemplifies the innovation-driven companies that are paving the way towards the realisation of the hydrogen economy. On behalf of the entire jury, I am delighted to congratulate the company on this richly deserved success.”
With the HERMES Startup AWARD, Deutsche Messe annually honors a company that is younger than five years old and whose product or solution exhibits a particularly high level of technological innovation. The award is traditionally presented at the opening ceremony of HANNOVER MESSE.The Hannover Messe is the world’s premier trade exhibition for industry. Its main topic, “Industrial Transformation,” brings together exhibitors from mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and digital sectors, as well as the energy sector, to offer ideas for future production processes and energy supply. Key subjects include Industry 4.0/Manufacturing-X, Energy for Industry, Digitization/Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Carbon-Neutral Production, and Hydrogen and Fuel Cells. A variety of conferences and discussions supplement the exhibition programme. The next edition of the event will take place in Hannover, Germany, from April 22 to 26, 2024. Norway is a partner nation.
