IMTEX 2025 elevate manufacturing with innovation and sustainability

IMTEX 2025, the flagship event of the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association, along with its concurrent shows, Tooltech and Digital Manufacturing, sets a new benchmark by surpassing all previous editions in scale and scope, attracting around 1,00,000 visitors from across the industry.
IMTEX 2025 & Tooltech 2025 witnessed an overwhelming response from the manufacturing industry with its comprehensive range of offerings in the field of metal cutting at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Bangalore , from 23rd to 29th January. IMTEX, Tooltech & Digital Manufacturing 2025 was larger than all previous editions, with eight halls and around 90,000 sq mt of space. The event hosted around 1,100 exhibitors from over 23 countries with live machines. Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Spain, Taiwan, and the United States of America had special pavilions. Trade delegations from various industry sectors were present, and the overall footfall reached around 1,00,000 business visitors.
Shaping the future of manufacturing
Combining innovative design and production elements, exhibitors showcased multi-tasking machines for the defence and aerospace sectors, high-speed machines and drill tap centres for the electronics sector, metal additive manufacturing for the auto, defence, and aerospace sectors, and many other new-age technologies.
IMTEX featured smart, high-precision, high-performance, hybrid, and special-purpose machines. Robots, cobots, AGVs, 3D printing, Industry 4.0, digital twins, advancements in tooling and measurement, and solutions for new products were also showcased.
The concurrent show, Tooltech, featured the latest advancements in cutting tools, tooling systems, machine tool accessories, metrology, and CAD/CAM technologies. Digital Manufacturing showcased advancements in Industry 4.0 and additive manufacturing. The 3D printing showcase was a sight to witness with many new technologies on display and launches focused on it.
Opening ceremony
The opening of the event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Shri HD Kumaraswamy, Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, Government of India; Dr. MB Patil, Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, Government of Karnataka; Laxmesh BH, Vice President and Head of Aerospace and Systems Business at Larsen & Toubro Ltd; and Prashanth Doreswamy, President and CEO of Continental Automotive (India) Pvt Ltd, who lit the inaugural lamp.
Other prominent figures at the inauguration included Jamshyd N. Godrej, Chairman of Exhibitions at IMTMA; Rajendra S. Rajamane, President of IMTMA; Mohini Kelkar, Vice President of IMTMA; and Jibak Dasgupta, Director General and CEO of IMTMA. In his address as the Chief Guest, Shri Kumaraswamy emphasised the importance of a strong machine tool industry for a robust manufacturing sector. He noted that Karnataka produces approximately 50 percent of India’s machine tools, earning it the title of the “machine tool capital of India.”
Dr Patil, the Guest of Honour, acknowledged the machine tool sector as a cornerstone of manufacturing and stated that the Indian machine tool industry has experienced growth over the years, with metal cutting being a crucial segment of this expansion.
Laxmesh BH highlighted that IMTEX is a convergence of innovative ideas and minds, propelling India’s manufacturing growth. Doreswamy echoed this sentiment, praising the machine tool industry as a key contributor to various sectors, including the automotive industry, which consumes about 55 percent of India’s machine tools.
Rajamane provided insights on India’s standing in the global context, stating that the country ranks 9th in production and 6th in consumption according to Gardner Intelligence’s World Machine Tool Survey 2023. He reported that machine tool production in India has increased by roughly 10 percent year-on-year, reaching approximately INR 13,571 crore (around USD 1.6 billion). He also noted that IMTEX 2025 will bring together leaders from the machine tool user industry, policymakers, and innovators to seek actionable solutions for the future.
Parallel events
‘International Seminar on Machining Technologies’ was held on 24th and 25th January focusing on emerging technologies in metal cutting with global experts deliberating on innovations and best practices.
‘i2’ Academia Square’ was specially set for students from leading institutions, where they presented their research projects. The initiative was to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
‘Manufacturing Technology Quiz Contest’ was held on 26th January 26 to test students’ knowledge of manufacturing processes and concepts.
‘IMTMA Lakshya Exports and Engagement with Overseas Buyers’ took place on the 25th and 26th to facilitate export opportunities and foster global partnerships.
‘Jagruti-IMTMA Youth Programme’ introduced students to advancements in manufacturing technologies.
Auto components summit
ACMA and IMTMA co-organised the ‘Auto Components Industry Transformation Summit’ on 26th January with the keynote address on ‘Manufacturing Excellence in the Auto Components Manufacturing Industry’ delivered by Mr. Ganesh Mani, Chief Operating Officer, Ashok Leyland.
The session featured lively presentations by Micromatic Machine Tools Pvt. Ltd., Quaker Houghton, Marposs India Pvt. Ltd., Nagel Special Machines Pvt. Ltd., and Motultech India Pvt. Ltd.
A panel discussion on the automotive industry driving India’s growth story, chaired by Rajesh Nath, MD, German Engineering Federation (VDMA) India Office, delved deep into the automotive industry, focusing on MSMEs, battery technology, skilling, and Industry 4.0.
A fireside chat with industry leaders on analysing India’s position in the global automotive component manufacturing landscape, featuring Prashanth Doreswamy, President and CEO of Continental India, Sriram Viji, MD of Brakes India, and Rajesh Nath, MD of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA) India Office, highlighted pathways to position India on the global map.
Awards & recognition
The esteemed IMTMA-Cooper Award for Outstanding Supply Chain Unit, established in honour of Sir D.B. Cooper, was presented to Sphoorti Machine Tools for 2025. The company is widely recognised as a leader in the supply chain sector within the Indian machine tool industry. This prestigious award was created to commemorate the remarkable legacy of Sir D.B. Cooper, whose visionary leadership and pioneering contributions played a pivotal role in shaping the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA).
The IMTMA – Premier Outstanding Entrepreneur Award in Memory of Vinod Doshi for 2025 was presented to Vikram Salunke of Accurate Group, a leading metrology solutions company. Vikram Salunke’s entrepreneurial expertise played a key role in expanding the Group’s reach beyond regional boundaries, driving the development of groundbreaking technologies, and establishing a global reputation.
