Full Circle Lithium successfully tested a lithium-ion battery

By May 28, 2024 6:41 pm IST

Full Circle Lithium Corp. has tested its FCL-X® lithium-ion battery fire-extinguishing agent with a global electric vehicle manufacturer and local fire department for the Georgia Ports Authority.

Full Circle Lithium Corp., a US-based lithium product manufacturer, has successfully tested its proprietary lithium-ion battery fire-extinguishing agent, FCL-X®, with a global electric vehicle manufacturer and local fire department for the Georgia Ports Authority in Georgia, with local Bryan and Glynn County Fire Departments monitoring the tests.

Three independent laboratory tests have been conducted on FCL-X®, a battery fire-fighting agent, targeting lithium-ion batteries in household electronics, electric scooters, and EVs. The tests, conducted by an accredited US-certified laboratory, focused on different scenarios and environments to ensure the agent’s reliability and versatility. The tests included controlled lab settings and real-world simulations, comparing FCL-X® to other leading battery fire-fighting agents.

Carlos Vicens, CEO of FCL, said, “There is a lack of lithium-ion battery-specific fire-fighting agents on the market, and given the serious personal and business risks posed by lithium-ion battery fires globally, many participants in the EV battery chain, including first responders and EV OEMs, are actively searching for and testing various potential extinguishing agents. We believe that given the enormity of the risk posed by lithium-ion battery fires globally, the battery fire-fighting agent market is substantial and in its infancy. The proprietary FCL-X® agent is uniquely effective for fighting lithium-ion battery fires and so represents an exceptionally large potential opportunity for FCL.”

FCL-X® has been tested for its effectiveness in extinguishing lithium-ion battery fires safely and environmentally. The independent laboratory found it was “orders of magnitude” faster, used less agent, and limited toxic smoke. FCL-X® was developed by the FCL lithium engineering team to neutralise the complex chemical reactions that cause these fires. The EV OEM, GPA, and local fire departments have been searching for an effective fire-fighting agent tailored to lithium-ion batteries. The results show FCL-X® extinguishment performance is outstanding, requiring minimal clean-up and preventing re-ignition. FCL believes it is well-positioned to commercialise FCL-X®.

Tom Currin, COO of Full Circle Lithium, said, “We have seen a considerable amount of interest from several different industries who are both concerned from a safety perspective and have not been able to find a safe and effective solution.  As a part of our commercial roll-out strategy, we are rebranding our FCL lithium-ion battery extinguishing agent to FCL-X®.”

FCL is preparing to launch its breakthrough fire-extinguishing technology in the worldwide market, following successful testing and certification of the FCL-X®. The company’s focus on lithium-ion battery fire safety is consistent with the growing need for dependable fire suppression solutions in industries such as firefighting, automotive, residential, energy storage, and consumer electronics. FCL sees a great potential to deploy its FCL-X® product in the largest market for electric cars and associated technologies, the United States.

Carlos Vicens, CEO of FCL, said, “We believe we are situated in an ideal geographic location as the state of Georgia is focused on the future of electrification, with over US$20 billion in EV OEM-related projects currently being built. This is an ideal scenario for the commencement of the commercial roll-out of the FCL-X®.”
