Connectors for Field Cabling by Phoenix Contact

By OEM Update Editorial June 17, 2024 6:37 pm

Phoenix Contact’s field cabling connectors are compatible and flexible, allowing for easy insertion and versatile combinations in various applications.

The All-Electric Society’s vision of the future is a world with renewable and affordable electric energy. The path to achieve this involves comprehensive electrification, networking, and automation, which will increase the need for future-proof interfaces and cabling.

Active and flexible production processes depend on local components, meaning machines and plants should be arranged and installed using functional assemblies. These interconnected assemblies with reliable industrial plug-in connectors need to be flexible enough to accommodate future modifications and expansions.

Industrial connectors from the HEAVYCON complete series protect your interfaces and ensure reliable power transmission, data, and signals even under the harshest conditions. The industrial connectors are resistant to dirt, water, vibrations, and high levels of mechanical strain. The heavy-duty connectors have a seal rating of up to IP69K.

The next step in optimising manufacturing involves enabling even more flexible installation and operation of machines and plants, as is called for by the Industry 4.0 initiative. Heavy-duty plug-in connectors for linking up data, signals, and power lines offer a confusing variety of modules and housings with several configuration options.

Heavycon Contact inserts

Push-in technology in Heavy-duty connectors, now firmly established on the market, is also used to connect the power signal. This means that a module with plug-in connection technology is available for the industrial plug connectors from the Heavycon Modular line as well. The individual wires are fitted with ferrules; the prepared wire is pushed into the contact chamber, and contact gets established. The connection is vibration-resistant, long-lasting, and can be used for applications up to 400 V and 16 A. Various power modules are available for voltages of up to 5,000 V and currents of up to 200 A.

These enable consistent tool-free installation: For the first time, HEAVYCON Push-in contact inserts with Click-in latching enable tool-free installation and assembly of heavy-duty connectors. You do not need a screwdriver for the conductor connection or for mounting in the housing. This is unique on the market and guarantees incredibly easy handling and critical time savings.

Solutions for special requirements: Blind plugging

HEAVYCON docking frames allow the time-saving installation and maintenance of plug-in systems. The floating sockets and the leading guide pin on the docking frame enable safe and blind contact of plug connections in areas where the interfaces are not visible. The robust frame is assembled with modular contact inserts. You can create your customised interface by combining a wide range of transmission media in a single frame.

It enables tool-free and space-saving cabling: The deciding factor for selecting the correct plug-in connector is its specific functions, with which the user should be intimately familiar. Spring and insulation displacement technologies are considered quick-connection technologies that save the installation technician a lot of time.

Push-lock technology enables the tool-free connection of rigid and flexible conductors with and without ferrules. It also ensures safe connection with precise conductor assignment, colour coding, and numerical coding in the connection area.
