Oerlikon Balzers, a provider of surface solutions, has introduced BALIMED TICANA, a PVD coating specifically designed for dental abutments and instruments that meets the stringent requirements of modern dentistry. The innovative coating is the same colour as human gums, which makes it discreet, and it also offers functional properties that help ensure patients get the very best long-term healthcare. The new BALIMED TICANA coating represents another step forward in Oerlikon Balzers’ growth strategy in the medical industry.
Dental implants using fixed dental prostheses face increasingly strict quality requirements. Applying highly wear-resistant, biocompatible coatings to dental abutment surfaces makes them more versatile and longerlasting, a key demand in modern dental technology.
BALIMED TICANA gives dental abutments excellent coating properties and has a discreet, natural rosé colour. The coating is resistant to abrasion and wear and provides a durable surface with a high coating hardness of HIT [GPa] > 35, allowing long-lasting fixed dental prostheses and ensuring high stability for crowns.
Based on Oerlikon Balzers’ patented S3p technology, the very smooth coating enables fixation of longlasting implants. BALIMED TICANA has been tested in 25 percent sodium chloride (NaCl), and after 34 days of immersion the coating had not lost any of its colour. Its corrosion resistance also protects against oral hygiene and offers protection against saliva.
