India still has a long way to go as far as the manufacturing sector is concerned and certain actions need to be implemented for its improvement – Anil Manduskar, Managing Director, WAM India
Optimistic changeThe manufacturing sector plays a pivotal role in the economy of the country. Speaking about the changes in the positive direction, Anil Manduskar, Managing Director, WAM India said, “It is encouraging to see positive changes in this sector where processes are being changed from manual to semi – automatic or automatic in raw material handling, processing and packaging area. However, the point of major concern is non availability of manpower having job oriented specific skills. Therefore, we from our end always invest our time and efforts in educating and training manpower. It’s high time our education system and policies adopt and introduce specific job oriented courses”.
The Indian manufacturing sector is on the right track in acheiving manufacturing excellence however it still has a long way to go. Mr. Anil Manduskar feels “In India, the sector is yet to get technologically sound. The prudent actions solicited are right kind of laws and economic policies for export, strong patent laws to welcome new technologies, adequate quality and safety standards to create level playing field for all. On the other hand the sector lacks training facilities leading to lack of job oriented skilled labour, negligence on safety standards, lack of power and infrastructure etc. to name a few”.
Expectations from the governmentIn order to strengthen the sector Mr. Manduskar suggests, “Clear roll out plan for GST and elimination of FBT, special benefits to the power sector to curb the shortage in fastest possible way, improved infrastructure, develop / decentralise industrial zones in undeveloped areas with tax holiday options, lucrative benefits for renewable power projects, easing norms for foreign investments and minimised cost of borrowings”.
